<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3pOj2RLWBQA/UCQBtfHE5-I/AAAAAAAABco/XQxM4uQx85c/s1600/Dance1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3pOj2RLWBQA/UCQBtfHE5-I/AAAAAAAABco/XQxM4uQx85c/s400/Dance1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Well, I'm getting everything ready for classes at the Quilted Moose this weekend! We're doing Halloween a little bit early !! Their class patterns are the happy little skeletons below. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LVtcsGfYDuc/UCQBuvSi6oI/AAAAAAAABcw/zUA56rGtqGk/s1600/haphallow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="347" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LVtcsGfYDuc/UCQBuvSi6oI/AAAAAAAABcw/zUA56rGtqGk/s400/haphallow.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The Trees with the Jack-o'-Lanterns and paper lanterns hung between them is from a new quilt called "Dance By the Light of the Moon". I really love the sparkle floss used for the spider webs! Speaking of floss!.... We got an order from Cosmo yesterday that filled in quite a few holes in our supply! YAY!!!! I'm really happy that they're starting to fill orders again! They had re-tooling/re-warehousing/re-lots of stuff that affected the availability of their floss, and it really hit us hard! It seems like things are getting back to normal and we'll be able to get our kits available again soon. Thanks for being patient!!<br />
<br />
The skeleton pillows are made with my new fabric line for Lecien, "Inkwell". We should have that fabric by then end of this month or early September. We'll get kits cut for Vintage Tin, Harvest Hopscotch, and "Dance By the Light of the Moon" as quickly as we can. OH!!! We also got several bolts of the cream colored Linen for A Gardener's Alphabet!! If you were on the waiting list you've been called or emailed already to let you know we have it ready for you. We'll have the linen on the website before the end of the day.......in fact it's going up as we speak! YAHOO!!!<br />
<br />
If you're going to the Quilted Moose classes this weekend, see you there!!! We're going to have SO MUCH FUN!!<br />

A New Website!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bq1bYOqwH0A/UBhSflKetaI/AAAAAAAABcQ/fkEfR6dMXcE/s1600/hydrangea7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="417" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bq1bYOqwH0A/UBhSflKetaI/AAAAAAAABcQ/fkEfR6dMXcE/s640/hydrangea7.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Well... the new website was launched in the wee hours last night! We've spent several hours today trying to get our email back...something about the new website using a different server messed it up (blah,blah,blah computer talk that doesn't make sense...) Anyway, it's fixed now! YAY!!! We're still fine tuning the site so some little things will change here and there over the next week or so. By the time we're done, every pattern will show which flosses are used on it..stuff like that. I hope that you'll like it and that it will be easier to navigate. We'd started having SO MUCH trouble with our old site (it actually started just randomly deleting products!) It was more than time for a change. This website is using all the new technology (translates to "all the bells and whistles") and we'll be able to add some other things as time goes by. Check it out! If the link from here doesn't work properly just go directly to www.crabapplehillstudio.com. <br />
<br />
We'll be working on the blog next and trying to get it up to date. I tend to start computer-y stuff out of necessity and then not know enough about it to keep the workings up to date. NOW I have two or three people here with me who know all about it, so maybe they can drag us into 2012!!!<br />
<br />
All of the new releases are on the website... we just got the linen used on A Gardener's Alphabet in today! YAY!!! So we'll start cutting it and filling the orders we have on the waiting list. When we get those filled, we'll put it back up on the website. I ordered fabric today for all of the new quilts so we'll have kits for those in a month or so too!<br />
<br />
Browse around on the new website! If you find anything that doesn't work properly PLEASE let us know so we can fix it ASAP!<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MDYRcaUArLA/T_yjV8DaFfI/AAAAAAAABb0/kzG8hGbghAU/s1600/JonnO+001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MDYRcaUArLA/T_yjV8DaFfI/AAAAAAAABb0/kzG8hGbghAU/s640/JonnO+001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
It's 100 degrees outside......about 150 degrees in the studio!! Something's wrong with the A/C and we're DYING in here!!!! This is proof of just how hot it is.........Jonn-O finally had all he could take and went outside to run through the sprinklers!! LOLOL!!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MZLge_iTu1M/T_yjblQ4wNI/AAAAAAAABb8/xKoJ_lKj2So/s1600/JonnO+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MZLge_iTu1M/T_yjblQ4wNI/AAAAAAAABb8/xKoJ_lKj2So/s640/JonnO+002.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
A few more minutes of this heat and we'll all be out there! The A/C guy is coming (he just called to say he's almost here) so HOPEFULLY this'll be an easy fix and we'll be up and running right away. It's supposed to be hotter tomorrow! YIKES!!!! I'm thinking about sending my Jon into town to get a big kiddy pool....we could all sit around it outside in the shade......wonder if we can hook up the computers outside??? Can you say "electrocution"?? Hope your air conditioning is working! xo Meg<br /><br />Meg Hawkeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16425404383745079903noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7419710590304230938.post-80749718837849309152012-07-04T16:58:00.001-07:002012-07-04T16:58:19.292-07:00Happy 4th of July!!!<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

I can't believe that this weekend is the end of June! Where the heck did it go???? We've been busy around here with the Summer Retreat and new patterns...but STILL!!! When did the month slip away?<br />
<br />
I'll post pictures from the retreat next week......we had SO MUCH FUN!!!!! I was hoarse for a couple of days from all the laughing! One of the things that happened had a little something to do with this bear............<br />
<br />
Jan lives at Lake Wenatchee....way out in the woods above Leavenworth, WA. She got a call from her husband on Saturday night while we were all sitting here stitching. He was all excited... telling her how he'd had a visit from this bear that's been trying to get into their garbage. First, he said, he went out to chase it away with a broom in one hand and gun in the other.......then, it took a swipe at their dog (missed, luckily)......THEN! This was when Jan totally lost it and couldn't stop laughing.......he "called it every name in the book" and it STILL wouldn't leave! (Imagine THAT!!! Calling bears names USUALLY works like a charm!!!) The gun you say?? What about the gun? Warning shots?? No.... the broom and "names" !!!! Anyway, she sent a couple pix of the bear on it's return visits after she got home. The game dept. has put out a live trap for it, so hopefully the problem will be solved soon.<br />
<br />
Janice and I are stitching on another new pattern this weekend called Autumn Hopscotch (name's still possibly going to change.......everybody here thinks it's a stupid name for it.... we'll see!) I'll take pix on Monday and post them with the retreat photos.<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend! Summer's really here! xoxoxMeg Hawkeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16425404383745079903noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7419710590304230938.post-29493518565773408342012-06-12T13:58:00.000-07:002012-06-12T13:58:18.003-07:00Inkwell!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here it is... about 90 degrees today....and we're ready for Halloween! We'll be putting the new Halloween designs up on the website tomorrow. This book is "Celinda Wickenblat's Spellbook". It's really easy to make with cardboard...kraft paper....cardstock....OH! And a little bit of stitching! There are even three spellbook pages to copy onto the cardstock to get you started!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is the Janette Needlebook and Pincushion! It's a tri-fold felted wool needlebook that's lined in fabric. You could make it in any colorway... I just went with black because I wanted to use some of my new fabric line "Inkwell" for the pincushions.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bBGNW47iIiA/T7GZSfPuFqI/AAAAAAAABUA/A7PvEezSgSY/s1600/spirited+tt+cover+image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bBGNW47iIiA/T7GZSfPuFqI/AAAAAAAABUA/A7PvEezSgSY/s400/spirited+tt+cover+image.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The tea towels are "Spirited Tea Towels"... I really like the bound edging and it's SO easy to do!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And, this is the completed "Spellbound". It's scrappy, scrappy, scrappy!!! There are a bunch of closeups in the last post. Also, I think the "Halloween Thimble Bouquet" is in the last post too. We'll send out a flyer tomorrow too if you're on the mailing list.<br />
Well.....on to Christmas!<br />

<br />
Well, I stitched ALL WEEKEND!!! Watched (listened to) several movies......do you KNOW how many hours long "Lawrence of Arabia" is???? Holy Mackerel!!!...........found a show that I LOVE!!!! The Bronson Pinchot Project. It's GREAT....really GREAT!!!! Makes me want to win the lottery....buy an old run down town.....and restore everything in sight! But, since that hinges on winning the lottery, I don't think it's going to happen....DARN!!<br />
Anyway, didn't finish Spellbound, but I made a big dent in it! I'm thinking two more days...........my finger is sore, just thought I'd whine a little bit there............wish me luck!Meg Hawkeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16425404383745079903noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7419710590304230938.post-29145403407909537302012-04-26T16:31:00.001-07:002012-04-26T16:31:27.751-07:00Hurry, Hurry, Hurry!!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Ok! It's traced and tinted.... basted and ready to stitch!!!! "Spellbound" is going to be SO MUCH FUN!!<br />
I'm going to try to complete it before Monday..........let's see if I can!!!! Could be a pipe dream, huh?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kWJy8v3kBBw/T5nZlFf1QnI/AAAAAAAABTg/eB5wmrK8yf0/s1600/spellbound+trace+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kWJy8v3kBBw/T5nZlFf1QnI/AAAAAAAABTg/eB5wmrK8yf0/s400/spellbound+trace+002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Janice has started sewing the blocks together, so we'll be ready to put it together as soon as I finish the embroidery. I'm planning on releasing this in a few weeks with the rest of the new patterns..... WHEW!! It's going to be a race to the finish!<br />
<br />

I feel like I should say "HAPPY HALLOWEEN" !!! <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1O9Nmnc3guQ/T5RL84b8MZI/AAAAAAAABS8/aYyTPpJe0IU/s1600/vintage+tin+fabric+layout+image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1O9Nmnc3guQ/T5RL84b8MZI/AAAAAAAABS8/aYyTPpJe0IU/s320/vintage+tin+fabric+layout+image.png" width="293" /></a></div>
<br />
WOW, has it ever been an eventful and busy Spring!! So many changes have happened here there hasn't been time to THINK, let alone post!! We've been Spring cleaning..........Out with the old...in with the new!<br />
Lots of patterns are being discontinued.... gone for good in July! We're going to flag the ones that are going on the website. I always hate to discontinue things... but there's just not enough room for everything FOREVER!! <br />
<br />
Change is an inevitable part of life, I know, but that doesn't mean that it's always easy!! This winter we lost two employees.......and gained four! That meant TRAINING!!!!.... and mistakes.... and fixing mistakes... and delays....and finally, "WHEW", things running more smoothly than ever before! We also have some new machinery which meant things had to be moved around and built...... I just had to put a lot of things (designing) on hold until we got all of our little ducks in a row!! Now I can get back up to speed.<br />
<br />
and................................................<br />
<br />
I thought I'd give you a little peek into some of the new things coming out in May and later this summer. The quilt above (I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT IT!!) is my first "MAN" quilt.... Let me give you a little back story..............This Spring I was finally able to talk our son Jon into joining us here in "Girly Land"!! He's come on board as manager of the studio, and BOY!!! has there ever been a shake-up...shake-down.... shake, rattle & roll????? Within a few days he had us all super re-organized and un-fussied, running smoothly and up to code! We've even had our first safety meeting! A man's perspective has done us a lot of good I think.... so..... time for a man's quilt! This is called Vintage Tin. That means vintage car parts/body parts or something in car nut manly testosterone soaked talk..............Jon collaborated with me on this so I'm pretty sure we can say it has the "Man Stamp of Approval"! Don't laugh at the way it's set up. The blocks were just "stuck" in the image to figure out where to put the fabric... it's not the final image.. YIKES!! I'm planning on having it ready to release in July. I don't have the fabric to stitch it on yet or I'd be working on it NOW!!!! <br />
<br />
The next picture shows the Halloween Thimble Bouquet. It will be released in May for International Quilt Market. We're not going to Spring Market, but the patterns will be released as if we were! I had planned on going but my fabric line is delayed a little... and I wouldn't have had any new samples to put in my booth.... all that way for a bare booth???? No! I decided to stay home and enjoy my lilacs for once! We always seem to leave for market just as the lilacs are coming to their peak. Not this year! YAY!!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Folrepo5otE/T5RMk4do0tI/AAAAAAAABTE/hRMvnGp0QwM/s1600/thimble+bouquet+1br.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Folrepo5otE/T5RMk4do0tI/AAAAAAAABTE/hRMvnGp0QwM/s320/thimble+bouquet+1br.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
The next is Janette Needlebook and Pincushion. It's a tri-fold needlebook with a wool cover and fabric lining. The elongated strawberry-ish cone pincushions are really fun. I want to make a bunch of them to hang on one of my Halloween trees! We made this pattern for one of the retreats....the Thimble bouquet too, for that matter!....... I did the linings in plain linen and everybody stamped them (and the ties) with permanent ink. REALLY fun!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hp1Zdx6FxFk/T5RMwDIdj8I/AAAAAAAABTM/fH_kU6G_XfE/s1600/Janette+Pattern+Cover+Image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hp1Zdx6FxFk/T5RMwDIdj8I/AAAAAAAABTM/fH_kU6G_XfE/s320/Janette+Pattern+Cover+Image.jpg" width="284" /></a></div>
<br />
I have more... a few Christmas things (tea towels, stitchery, Snow Flurries quilt with tons of snowflakes/beads/crystals) and some Halloween tea towels....OH! And another Halloween quilt ala Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage, with an unrolled scroll with spells on it... and a box of the newest taste treat on the witch's snack food market....Guano Puffs!! But first I need to take photos of the ones that will be released in May.........I'll show them to you later! As for some of the other ones...I don't have FABRIC to make them with yet!!!! AAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!! <span style="font-size: x-small;"> Take a few deep breaths and count to 10......</span><br />
<br />
On another subject COMPLETELY............ I'm having the website re-done. Not just a different "look", but totally re-done. I'd really like to know if you have any suggestions or observations about the site now or things in other websites that really work well that you'd like to share??? Links to other websites that are easy to use, have all the bells & whistles, look really good.......etc.... would really be appreciated. I can forward them to my website guy and maybe we can build something that will be GREAT!! Just email info@crabapplehillstudio.com and put "website" in the subject line so we can sift through them a little more easily. I really do want your input!!<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When do you know you're in a very cool store??? When a wedding party shows up to have photos taken in front of it! The bride looked so beautiful!! So sweet....</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sjJHBTIdjmw/T0GtZikYM_I/AAAAAAAABSA/3b-PmC1k9bw/s1600/IMG00030-20120218-1410.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sjJHBTIdjmw/T0GtZikYM_I/AAAAAAAABSA/3b-PmC1k9bw/s320/IMG00030-20120218-1410.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is Garden Girl and my new official favorite place to go in Yakima, Washington! Really... I'm going to have to stay away from this place! It has everything I love!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The fragrance of fresh hyacinth FILLED the shop, and I had to walk through about 5 times (not kidding!) to make sure I'd seen everything! I found lots of 1/2 price really great stuff in the vault...yes, a real, old bank vault! Things from past seasons...SO MUCH FUN!!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L_VHb2u3EH0/T0GtfhHJAsI/AAAAAAAABSI/IlXqZY3SC0I/s1600/IMG00031-20120218-1411.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L_VHb2u3EH0/T0GtfhHJAsI/AAAAAAAABSI/IlXqZY3SC0I/s320/IMG00031-20120218-1411.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">UGH!!! I'm kicking myself!!! I didn't see that blackboard/slate hanging at the bottom of the picture above.........if I had.... It would be in my hot little hands RIGHT NOW!!! The "tree" had twig wreaths nestled in it like a big nest, and was filled with the moss eggs. SO extremely cool! Look UP!!! If not, you'll miss something GREAT!!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YFtR3a1Aln0/T0GtkMKGgyI/AAAAAAAABSQ/-pgmyRkH9vw/s1600/IMG00028-20120218-1409.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YFtR3a1Aln0/T0GtkMKGgyI/AAAAAAAABSQ/-pgmyRkH9vw/s320/IMG00028-20120218-1409.jpg" width="234" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I didn't even ask about the galvanized flower pails above....I was afraid they weren't for sale and didn't want my feelings hurt! Oh, I wanted them SO!!!! I can think of a million places to use them! There weren't just floral or garden-y things here! I got a beautiful lamp, orange and black striped and polka dotted paper straws (the old fashioned kind), little pots shaped like ice cream cones that I'm going to plant with wheatgrass... the owner, Lenette Roehl, had succulents in them....imagine each with moss and one blossom/one rose!.....OOOOOoooo.....carnations would look like ice cream! I saw some jewelry too. She was preparing an anniversary flower arrangement while we were there... it was moss/roses arranged in a really cool distressed metal french looking crown....with a sparkly bracelet draped across the moss in the center.......can you imagine anyplace that does anything that special????</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Did you notice the chandelier?? Teacups and spoons. Actually.... If I could take the entire shop...EVERYthing....and transport it to my house and the studio....every BIT of it would go perfectly... It would be so nice to be able to go "Bibbity Bobbity Boo!"....and have it work!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I can't wait to go back... It really does look like old glass glitter!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The pillowcase (I just love this.......there's something about bunnies with coats!) is crayon tinted. You can launder it in cold water and mild soap. You actually wouldn't HAVE to tint it, but I think it makes it look a little like an old storybook picture.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The new patterns are almost ready to release! The photographer will be here Tuesday! I thought you might want to see some more images from A Gardener's Alphabet. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uh4YTX-B4NE/TwjabPR6DwI/AAAAAAAABQE/EtO-C0tehKU/s1600/gardalphcloseups+009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="294" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uh4YTX-B4NE/TwjabPR6DwI/AAAAAAAABQE/EtO-C0tehKU/s320/gardalphcloseups+009.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have to admit... I've sort of fallen in love with this quilt and I've chosen my very favorite blocks....P (poppies), Q (queen ann's lace), M (morning glory - heavenly blues of course!), G (grapes), and K (kohlrabi....YES KOHLRABI!)</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tZLtjqlGN2M/TwjafgrrqaI/AAAAAAAABQM/cS1RJarOsOw/s1600/gardalphcloseups+012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tZLtjqlGN2M/TwjafgrrqaI/AAAAAAAABQM/cS1RJarOsOw/s320/gardalphcloseups+012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Oh yeah....and R (wild roses), and S (Spring & Summer...with appleblossoms and apples)</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r0BNzUnbKxE/Twjamtc5CiI/AAAAAAAABQU/7rJSk2HU314/s1600/gardalphcloseups+013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r0BNzUnbKxE/Twjamtc5CiI/AAAAAAAABQU/7rJSk2HU314/s320/gardalphcloseups+013.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm kind of fond of the berries too.....B</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zcmryVq2_Dg/TwjatLuUBfI/AAAAAAAABQc/x2A7Rnzhb6M/s1600/gardalphcloseups+016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zcmryVq2_Dg/TwjatLuUBfI/AAAAAAAABQc/x2A7Rnzhb6M/s320/gardalphcloseups+016.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The only problem is.... this pattern was just too big! (not the quilt.... the actual pattern!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So I decided to split it up...two blocks to a pattern... and present it as a block of the month!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This way, there'll be big, color pictures of the blocks on the pattern covers and that will help everybody with their color tinting!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There will also be two Easter patterns... a pillowcase called "Here Comes Peter Cottontail", and one called "All My Eggs In One Basket". Also there will be "Hedgerow Wreath"... a flower wreath that you can put a monogram in the center of.... "Sweet Violette", a pillow with a bouquet of violets on the front....and a little Valentine (yes, I know it's a little late!LOL!!!) Called "Crazy Love".</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There'll be many more new designs coming out in May at International Quilt Market in Kansas City too!........along with my new fabric line from Lecien.......nope, no hints or sneak peeks!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I should let you know too, that the October and June 2013 retreats are full. There are a few places left in the December retreat and several in the March one. BOY they filled up quickly!!!! I can't wait to meet everybody that signed up!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Well....suppose I'd better get back to writing patterns!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Thanks for a great 2011!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">xox Meg</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

We had such a good visit, so much laughter, and so much FUN!! I hope you enjoy the slideshow!</span><table bgcolor="#ffffff" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody>

<span style="color: #3d85c6; font-size: large;">We did something new this time... AN APRON CONTEST!! We sent the aprons out at the end of October to everybody and asked them to embellish them for the retreat. Not everybody brought one....PARTY POOPERS!!!.... it was a good thing though... we already had too many great aprons to choose from when it came time to vote for our favorites! The 3rd prize winner was Kim's candy cane apron.... 2nd prize went to Debbie's snow chef apron (it was complete with a matching tea towel and wine!).... 1st prize was won by Lynn and her Oh so cute gingerbread house Joy apron with the stuffed gingerbread man. They were all so cute!!!!! It was just darling with them hanging up all around the studio!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #3d85c6; font-size: large;">We were lucky enough to have several ladies who'd been at previous retreats, so there were many familiar faces! Traveling the farthest this time were Linda and Christine from McKinney, Texas. Every one of them was fun, funny, and so nice to have here! Thank you all for visiting us!! I'm already looking forward to our next winter retreat and have IDEAS!!!! for activities and projects!</span><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Well, the turkey is in the oven (the house smells GREAT!), everything else is either done, or ready to finish, and we're in that lovely time of the afternoon ................between bastings... and our guests and family arriving. Kind of a calm time before the final preparations and company...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Phil and I have come out to the studio to put some finishing touches on the studio's Christmas tree (I couldn't reach the top of the tree to hang the tinsel!) and to give HB a few cuddles and maybe a special Thanksgiving tummy rub! I think I may have enough time to finish up putting the tags on the last of the Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage kits (the last of the fabric we were waiting for arrived on Tuesday!!!! I guess I have to take back all those nasty names I was muttering under my breath about Moda and their backorders!LOL!!) They'll be ready to send on Monday to everyone on the waiting list. Once I know how many we have left over I'll put them up on the website.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

We're getting so tired of waiting for the backordered fabric we need to complete our Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage kits.............it's all we can do to keep our eyes open!!! Some of us are having a little harder time than others!<br />
Moda claims that the fabric should be here in another couple weeks......I'm so sorry for the Loooooooong delay.......but, at least we won't have to compromise about the prints we used!?<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Yesterday was icing day!... Janice and I spent the afternoon in the house adding mica "ice" to gingerbread cookies that I'd made to put on the Christmas tree. We dipped and painted on Mod Podge glue....edges and tips.... and then dipped them in mica glitter (NOT EDIBLE!!!!) They look like they've been caught in a snow storm! I can't wait until the tree goes up so we can see what they look like once they're hung on it!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The problem is...........we got a little bit carried away..(an easy thing to do once you start adding glitter to things!) We started looking around for other things to "ice"! We decided to do pine cones for sure....and maybe acorns.......maybe some greenery? But FOR SURE we had to "ice" some branches!! Do you know how much you pay for fake, flocked (iced) branches?? Ours are practically free! Here's how we did it.....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oJm06rNO79Q/Tr7LsKcjoiI/AAAAAAAABO4/APG8Kr85EoI/s1600/suppsm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oJm06rNO79Q/Tr7LsKcjoiI/AAAAAAAABO4/APG8Kr85EoI/s320/suppsm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">1. First, you need Mod Podge glue. I prefer it because it's not super thin, so it won't just drip off the branches, and not too thick so you can brush it on without it being gloppy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">2. You'll need a brush to apply the glue. I like to use those cheap sponge brushes so I can just throw them away if they're too icky once I'm done.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">3. Something to protect your work surface. We used large sheets of parchment paper.........I covered the countertop with one layer....then added a big sheet on top when we glued so it could catch the drips.......then removed it and added a clean one to catch the glitter (so we could re-use it). Yes, you go through quite a bit of parchment paper, but it makes the job so much easier! Stuff also won't stick to parchment paper...I paint and glue on it all them time because of that. It's MUCH cheaper to buy parchment paper in big sheets rather than those little rolls you get at the grocery store. I get a box of it at a restaurant supply store in town every year or two. It lasts for a LONG time even though I use it for everything from lining baking pans... craft projects...wrapping food... to using on the countertop to gather up peelings etc.... It's great stuff!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">4. A bowl or pie pan lined with foil to put the glue in.... this is just easier and less messy than dipping in the jar of glue.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">5. MICA!!!! Sometimes it's called Vintage Snow Glitter. It's a natural substance and has an extremely sparkly, icy, old fashioned look.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">6. Something to "ice"! We did branches.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AdUcWMAlVx0/Tr7LqTwVrZI/AAAAAAAABOw/6s5Jr4CmI0I/s1600/icestick5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AdUcWMAlVx0/Tr7LqTwVrZI/AAAAAAAABOw/6s5Jr4CmI0I/s320/icestick5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">First, you'll dab the Mod Podge on to the top surfaces of all the branches and twigs. You may have to do a section at a time so the glue stays wet so the mica will stick to it...... Remove the paper under the area you glued (with the drips on it) and put a clean piece of parchment paper underneath.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XfcMYzwf7Pc/Tr7LoMzGGVI/AAAAAAAABOo/cmMrJML9b2o/s1600/icestick4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XfcMYzwf7Pc/Tr7LoMzGGVI/AAAAAAAABOo/cmMrJML9b2o/s320/icestick4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now sprinkle (dump) mica over the glued areas.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GLxQAWjlDsU/Tr7LlLRz1YI/AAAAAAAABOg/iEi--zQkXA4/s1600/icestick3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GLxQAWjlDsU/Tr7LlLRz1YI/AAAAAAAABOg/iEi--zQkXA4/s320/icestick3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">You'll want to carefully remove the paper with the left-over mica on it, and dump the mica back into the jar/box so you can re-use it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I8YZMI3qKRk/Tr7LjXr31kI/AAAAAAAABOY/w1cQWU32nYQ/s1600/icestick2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I8YZMI3qKRk/Tr7LjXr31kI/AAAAAAAABOY/w1cQWU32nYQ/s320/icestick2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now all you have to do is let them dry. The glue will dry clear and the branches will just look ICY!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">How cool is THAT??? And how easy!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xepZICq0U-M/Tr7LgAw6jBI/AAAAAAAABOQ/JXJGiihK2OA/s1600/icestick1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xepZICq0U-M/Tr7LgAw6jBI/AAAAAAAABOQ/JXJGiihK2OA/s320/icestick1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We had so much fun with this project!!!! I hope you'll try it! Imagine some icy branches in a big pitcher...hung with a few glass icicles...or ornaments...or Christmas cards.....or cookies..........OR ANYTHING! How about sticking some branches in the tree here and there and decorating the tree with little "iced" nests and puffed up little birds? OOOOOOoooooo!!!! How about a branch in a pail with just one "iced" nest and a little bird???? How sweet would that be for a vignette that would last all winter long???? I'm going to do that! I'm going to put it in my foyer in front of my "Snow Days" quilt!! Oh.........I have to find a nest and a bird!!!!! Time to go to the craft store!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Oh, I almost forgot! Thanks to everybody that took the blog tour and entered my contest! We'll have the winners chosen first thing Monday morning and we'll get in touch with everybody... then we'll let you know who won!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I think I may have a bird and little twig nest in with my spring deco stuff....I have to go find it! Talk to you later!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">xo Meg</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Meg Hawkeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16425404383745079903noreply@blogger.com8
