Is it too early to talk about Halloween????

Well... you know that we have to work a little ahead of schedule????  We're almost ready to send this new design, "Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage", to the quilter!  Here are bits and pieces of a few of the blocks..........ignore the wrinkles please!  It hasn't been pressed yet and the piecing isn't complete.  Jan just finished the top block...a long, horizontal block with a line of crows.......and sent it yesterday.  I can't WAIT till it arrives!!!!

What would you expect to find in a witch's cottage?  Potions, spell books, herbs...hobgoblin earwax....just the normal stuff!  LOL!!  Also her boots, hat and broom of course!

It seems that Calendula is also an avid embroiderer and quilter..........hmmmm...... I think it would be really easy to give the books and potions your own names to personalize them!!

WOW!!!   Do these stitcheries ever need pressing!!!!

They've been tinted using the color crayon technique but I only used brown shades with a few muted colors here and
there to mimic the look of an old photograph that's been hand tinted.  It's turned out better than I'd even imagined!

"Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage" will be released in May at Spring International Quilt Market in Salt Lake City.  I have lots of other things in the works too....I'll show them to you later, I promise!
This week we'll start emailing a newsletter showing you the new patterns for spring!  There are six new Valentine Penny Candies and two project bag patterns........I'm LOVING mine!!

Talk to you later!    xox  Meg

Hi Everybody!
To sign up for the newsletter, all you have to do is either order from the website (with your email on the order) or just email at info@crabapplehillstudio.com and tell Sheila you'd like to get the newsletter. If email's reject we take them off the list so you may need to sign up again if you did sign up but aren't getting it. We only send them out when we have something to SAY...not just to remind you we're here every week or month (personally, I find that kind of irritating so we don't do that!) Sheila is busily sending the new pattern announcements now...let me see if I can see your email addresses on your comments and if so, we'll add them. xo Meg
PS....it's COLD today!!! Brrrrr!

Sorry...couldn't see the email addresses. You'll have to send them in.

It's never to early to start talking about Halloween! I am absolutely in love -- is this going to be a single pattern? My fingers are tightly crossed that it will be within my budget.

i love your design, do you have other words you could put in place insteAD OF HALLOWEEN WORDS. i WAS WONDERING IF i COULD MAKE THE QUILT INTO A ANTIQUE QUILT. aNY SWUGGESTIONS. noT WANTING TO PUT ALL THAT WORK INTO A HALLOWEEN QUILT. sANDI

Meg Hawkey said...

WOW! It's pretty Halloween-y! I suppose you could just leave out the hat and broom....and crows...and put different tags, labels on things. The spell book could be a journal. The bottles could be perfumes? Though, pretty Halloween-ish perfumes. Have fun and good luck! If you do it, please email a photo to let me see what you came up with to change it!! Meg

Meg, i love this and will purchase it as soon as it is available. I wanted to know if the shoe with the candy in it that you used at your last stitching retreat is in this pattern? Or is it a separate pattern available to buy? No it's never to early for Halloween.

I absolutely love this project. I was just scanning the posts and after seeing the finished project had to comment. But how do you do the crayon effect? Do you do tutorials on some of your effects? Oh, and what would you use the white crayons for? Wow, do I ever sound like a novice. I was also reading about your retreats and they sound like a lot of fun. I live in the center of part of Canada and Washington State seems like a long ways to go right at the moment. lol
Keep the ideas flowing I love them all.
